Area police news

Amherst

∎ A woman contacted police at 12:55 a.m. Friday after she left her residence at Townehouse Apartments, 50 Meadow St., unlocked for a brief time and returned home to find the door locked with a dead bolt. Police were unable to find any signs of forced entry, and are continuing to investigate whether someone tampered with the lock.

Northampton

∎ Alex Echevarria, 35, of New South St. Apt. 32B, was arrested about 7 p.m. Thursday on Old South Street on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license after failing to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Old South Street and Crafts Avenue.

∎ Police received a report at 4:43 p.m. Thursday that an unlocked car parked on Old Wilson Road had been entered and a bag with personal items and sunglasses was stolen.

∎ Police received a report at 11:09 a.m. Thursday of a cracked classroom window at Leeds Elementary School on Florence Street.

South Hadley

∎ Darlene M. Duval, 50, of 76C Hadley Village Road, was arrested on Hadley Village Road at 3:25 p.m. Aug. 10 on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle after hitting a parked car twice.

∎ Michael A. Germain, 49, of Chicopee, was arrested on Main Street at 2:21 p.m. Aug. 8 on charges of drug possession Class A (heroin), drug possession Class B (crack) subsequent offense, and drug possession Class B (crystal meth) subsequent offense after police received a report of someone using drugs along the river bank.

∎ Brandon D. Monty, 27, of Holyoke, was arrested on Bardwell Street at 3:35 p.m. Aug. 5 on charges of assault and battery and intimidating a witness.
