Gas leak prompts hour-long detour from section of Route 9 in Hadley
HADLEY — A gas leak on Route 9 near Applebee’s restaurant led authorities to detour traffic on the busy street for about an hour Monday morning.
Starting about 10:30 a.m., vehicles were not allowed between South Maple Street in Hadley and University Drive in Amherst, according to the website Fireground 360. Route 9 was reopened about 11:35 a.m.
Police Sgt. Damion Shanley said a cable company apparently struck the gas line, which caused the leak. The gas company was able to temporarily close off the line, but a full repair was not expected until today, he said.
