Springfield stabbing suspect Edwin Santiago pleads not guilty
SPRINGFIELD (AP) — A Springfield man has pleaded not guilty to the fatal stabbing of another man in what police describe as a possibly drug-related attack.
Edwin Santiago was ordered held without bail at his arraignment.
Police say the 29-year-old Santiago stabbed Sadeeq Khalid Allah to death following an altercation early Tuesday morning in the city’s North End.
Santiago went to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of a minor head injury. Police found him there and arrested him after questioning.
Police say the two men knew each other.
The slaying was the city’s ninth homicide of the year.
