Leverett librarian to take job at Jones Library in Amherst
Leverett Library’s director for the past nine years will assume a new position at Jones Library later this month.
Linda Wentworth of Amherst was recently named head of collections for the institution following a formal hiring process.
Library Director Sharon Sharry said that Wentworth, who will start Oct. 22, is an experienced librarian who will work well with the other members of the professional staff.
“I think she’s very well rounded,” Sharry said.
In her role in Leverett, Sharry said, Wentworth excelled at bringing the community into the library, with local authors speaking regularly.
As head of collections, Wentworth will be responsible for collection development, staffing the reference desk and overseeing various programs. She will also provide advice to patrons and readers and supervise shelving staff.
This marks a return of sorts for Wentworth, who previously served as both circulation assistant and reference librarian at Jones before taking the Leverett position in 2003.
She will be paid $44,645.
Though the job description has changed, Wentworth will fill a position that has been vacant for more than a year after adult services librarian Beth Girshman left for California in early 2011.
The selection committee was made up of Amy Anaya, the circulation librarian, Matthew Berube, head of information services, reference librarian Janet Ryan and North Amherst librarian Maggie Spiegel.
