Wendy Plummer of Amherst has most of the 60 or 70 kids and caregivers following along as she begins “The More We Get Together,” her weekly sing downstairs at the Jones Library. There are many repeat visitors enjoying the hour-long Tuesday morning get-togethers in the fall, including Meredith Sen who says, “We just wish it would stay 10:30 to 11:30 forever.”

Over the first 30 minutes Plummer leads the group from nursery rhymes into more interactive songs involving standing up or moving around. For the second half of the hour Plummer breaks out two tubs of musical instruments for most everyone to join in as she puts on a CD of children’s songs and plays along softly on the flute. It’s suprisingly quiet as the toddlers, most of whom are 3 years old or younger, are just learning to coax sounds from the instruments. Soon, the session winds down under the dim lights as, one by one, the grownups take their charges home for the first nap of the day.
