Alex Tajima and Justin Carey combined on a two-hit shutout for the Amherst Post 148 American Legion baseball team in a 5-0 home victory over Easthampton Wednesday night.

Tajima allowed the two hits and struck out seven over the first five innings. Carey threw a pair of hitless innings to close it out.

Carey (triple, run) and Evan Delaney (RBI, run) had two hits each for Amherst (5-13), while Tim Knightly tripled home a pair of runs.

Adam Krol fanned five in five innings of work for Post 224 (6-12).

Pettengill Insurance 7, King & Cushman 2 — Mike Paleologopoulos went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored to help playoff-bound Post 260 (13-7) to the home victory.

Paleologopoulos also earned the win on the mound, scattering 11 hits over six innings with four strikeouts.

Mike Croke had two hits, drove in three runs and scored another. Connor Sheridan was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs, while Scott Bicknell and Joe Ciolek picked up an RBI apiece.

Mack Hale (run), Zach Goodwin-Boyd (run) and David Konowitch (RBI) each had two hits for Post 28 (8-11). Cam Woodward knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly.

Greenfield 17, Belchertown 3 — Max Humphrey had two hits for Post 239 (0-19) in the home loss.

Mickey Mantle

Amherst 10, Easthampton 0 — Brendan Ziomek tossed a one-hitter as Amherst (12-3-1) remained in a first-place tie with rival Northampton with the win on the road.

Daniel Hodgkins (run, RBI), Django Ellenhorn (two runs) and Ziomek (two runs, RBI) each had two hits, while Jeff Shepard contributed a single, a walk and an RBI.

Ziomek struck out four and walked four.

Shy Torres had the lone hit, a third inning double, for Easthampton (4-13).

Frontier 6, South Hadley 1 — Jourdan York-Welcome doubled home three runs and pitched four shutout innings for Frontier (8-7) in the home win.

Nolan Muzyka (two doubles), Drew Castronovo (RBI) and Evan Bourque (RBI) had two hits apiece in the victory. Tim Hoar allowed just one run over the final three innings.

Northampton 4, Mohawk 2 — Northampton mustered only one hit through the first four innings before scoring four times in the fifth to get the win on the road.

Hunter Salem led off the fifth with a double for the Blue Devils (12-3-1). Garrett Connly and Mikey Gross both had RBI singles.

Colby Lander got the win with five strong innings, and Chris Soderberg pitched the last two to get the save.

Tri-County League

Easthampton Savings Bank 3, Longmeadow Warriors 0 — Luke Cimmeno pitched a complete game shutout as Easthampton won on the road.

Cimmeno struck out nine and allowed only three hits. Jeremy Tanguay went 2-for-3 with a RBI for Easthampton (4-12). Ryan Smith had a hit with a RBI, and Drew Dombkowski had an RBI triple.

Metro Softball

Belchertown 2, Northampton 1 — Tessa Cote finished off a four-hit victory for Belchertown (6-7) as the teams resumed a game suspended in the third inning on June 25.

Cote struck out seven and knocked in a run in the win. Felicia Verville added an RBI single, with Danielle Racicot and Mikayla Weigel scoring a run each.

Emily Lepage, Julia McClellan, Allie Vanasse and Madeline Spencer-Orrell had a hit apiece for Northampton (1-13-1), while Serita Whitney scored the lone run.

Spencer-Orrell fanned 10 in a complete-game loss.

Amherst 13, Springfield Hurricanes 12 — The teams scored a combined 14 runs in the second inning alone as Amherst (7-6-1) edged out a win.

Springfield scored 11 runs before Allie LaClair of Amherst came in, pitching three innings and giving up one run.

Cassie Long had three hits, a walk, a double and scored three runs for Amherst. Ali McIntire had three hits and two runs scored, and LaClair and two hits.
