To the point

 • Patrick Galvin, left, and Jason Galvin, both of Hadley, point a stone chimney Thursday at the Jones Library in Amherst. All of the building's six chimneys are being pointed by the men, who have been in business for 30 years. In addition to the pointing, they will install new, historically accurate groin vaults at two of the chimneys. The groin vaults, which will be made by Alpha Stone Concrete in Turners Falls, help prevent water from entering chimneys.
JERREY ROBERTS

 • The existing groin vault rests at Jones Library Thursday. It will be used decoratively on the library grounds after it has served as a model for two new vaults being made by Alpha Stone Concrete in Turners Falls.

JERREY ROBERTS
