The temperature was in the single digits, but Amy Mager’s easy-breezy skirt suggested warmer days ahead. Mager, a mother of six who lives in Northampton, has an efficient method of pulling her style together.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE: All the things I have go together. No stand-alone items.
SKIRT: I wear one every day. It’s part of my religious tradition — I’m a traditional observant Jew. They’re very comfortable. I wear long johns underneath when it’s freezing.
PLANNING HER OUTFITS: I really don’t. In the morning, I’m up, I do 20 to 30 minutes on the rowing machine, then I have to be ready for the first school bus at 7.
HER LAYERS: The jacket is North Face and I got it at Dick’s with a coupon. I got the vest from Lands’ End for $35, It was 50 percent off the day after Thanksgiving. And the shirt was from Zanna.
THE COLOR PURPLE: It’s my favorite. I just feel good wearing it.
SENSIBLE SHOES: These are Finn Comfort and they’re phenomenal. They’re the only shoes I’ve worn for the past year-and-a-half. I got them at Strada.
HER STYLE: Eclectic. Style and comfort are important to me.
HOW TO KNOW WHEN YOU’RE WELL-DRESSED: Close your eyes and breathe. Breath is life. If you’re not breathing, you’re not living.
