Jeffrey W. Holmes, received a bachelor’s degree in music theory and a master’s degree in jazz and contemporary media, with a writing emphasis, both from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. In addition to teaching at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and performing around the world, including in Russia, Japan and Australia, he is a member of the classical ensemble Solid Brass, is lead trumpeter for the New England Jazz Ensemble, and has performed with the Paul Winter Consort, guitarist John Abercrombie and the California rock band Jack’s Mannequin.
His work has been featured on many CDs; the latest, “Of One’s Own” by The Jeff Holmes Quartet, is his first small-group recording. The acoustic jazz CD features five original works by Holmes and reworkings of the popular tunes “Poinciana” of the 1930s and “So Long, Farewell” from the musical “The Sound of Music.”
