Style Stop: Matthew Thomas

Matthew Thomas was waiting to cross Main Street in downtown Northampton when the Style Stop team spotted his fedora. As he made his way toward the Hampshire County Courthouse, we stopped him to ask a few questions.

Outfit: I decided to dress like this today, and almost every day, because it’s fabulous. I think the classics are the classics for a reason.

Suit: I’m a prosecutor so I have to dress formal all the time, but I like to dress for form and function. I dress more flamboyantly when I go out. I like blues and greens but I tend to be at the extreme end of that spectrum.

Hat: I always wear a hat. I got it at Thornes Marketplace in Northampton. I like to shop local.

Tie: I pick my ties depending on whether or not it goes with my suit and also whether or not it will look bold in court.

Glasses: Another classic. This is where it’s at. My grandfather wore these.

Favorite era: I like the ’50s and ’60s.

Fashion adviCe: Society has become too casual. People should become more formal now because when people dress casually, they tend to act ill-mannered and boorish toward each other.
