JFK Middle School hosts fundraiser for after-school program Northampton
NORTHAMPTON — JFK Middle School is hosting a holiday shopping fundraiser to benefit the school’s after-school enrichment program.
The inaugural JFK Mall opens on Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the school on Bridge Road. More than 27 vendors and crafters — including Northampton middle and high school students — will offer wares such as woolens, candles, popcorn and jewelry. The event will also feature a bake sale, raffle and a book-signing by JFK seventh-grader and author Henry Reade (See story, Page B1).
Since its initial grant funding ended six years ago, JFK’s After School Program has been self-supporting, said Sal Canata, the middle school’s assistant principal. The annual budget of approximately $7,000 provides students with enrichment offerings three times a week in subjects ranging from baking to sculpture.
The mall, a new addition to the program’s two annual fundraisers, was suggested by members of JFK’s After School Advisory Committee. Proceeds from the event will go to scholarships for students, snacks, supplies and fees for instructors.
There are 140 students signed up for the After School Program this semester, Canata said. For more information on the JFK Mall, call the middle school at 587-1498.
