Army Corps official to discuss levees in Northampton
NORTHAMPTON — An official with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will speak tonight on levees.
Scott Michalak of the Corps’ New England District will cover the basics of levees, how and why they are built and how they are maintained.
Michalak will discuss flood control and the state of the Northampton dike and take questions from the audience.
The presentation starts at 7 p.m. in the Bridge Street School cafetorium in Northampton.
Michalak is the chief of the Geotechnical Water Resources Branch for the Corps and serves as the district dam and levee safety officer.
