Entergy: Activists’ pollution allegations not new

New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. says many of the allegations were unsuccessfully raised before the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station was re-licensed earlier this year. The plant was relicensed after more than six years of Nuclear Regulatory Commission review.

Three Massachusetts activists, represented by EcoLaw, notified the Environmental Protection Agency last week that they intend to sue unless the EPA acts to enforce anti-pollution laws within 60 days.

The activists allege 33,000 violations of the Clean Water Act through chemical discharge or overheated water. They claim liability for Entergy of $831 million.

In a statement, Entergy said it takes its environmental responsibilities seriously.
