UMass President Robert Caret on bus tour to highlight university’s economic impact

The tour begins at 10:30 a.m. in Springfield at Springfield Technical Community College and will include a stop at State Street Bank on Russell Street in Hadley, where Caret and Henry M. Thomas III, chairman of the UMass Board of Trustees, will meet with students from the Amherst campus to discuss a program focused on careers in finance.

According to a statement issued by the university, 165 students participate in what is described as an innovative program at the bank offering students professional experience in the financial world while helping them earn money to pay for college.

After the stop in Hadley, Caret’s entourage will head to UMass Lowell, where it will hold a roundtable discussion on the university’s economic impact at the Mark and Elisia Saab Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center.

On Wednesday, Caret plans to be in Fall River at 8:30 a.m. at the Massachusetts Accelerator for Biomanufacturing and in New Bedford at the Marine Commerce Terminal at 10:30 a.m. and at Burton’s Grill at 12:30 p.m.

On Thursday he is scheduled to be at MassBiologics in Boston at 9:45 a.m. and at Waters Corp. in Milford at 12:15 p.m.

Chancellors from the five UMass campuses will also participate.
