UMass student Eric L. Sinacori found dead in off-campus apartment
AMHERST — A 20-year-old University of Massachusetts student from New Jersey died last week at his off-campus apartment.
Eric L. Sinacori, a third-year student majoring in kinesiology from Whitehouse Station, N.J., died Friday at Puffton Village, 1040 North Pleasant St.
Notification was sent to the campus community by Enku Gelaye, interim vice chancellor and dean of students, student affairs and campus life.
“During difficult times like this we can help each other by noticing and acknowledging the ongoing mourning and readjustment process that will certainly take place,” Gelaye wrote.
Gelaye referred students, staff and faculty to resources including the Center for Counseling and Psychological Health, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and the Dean of Students Office.
Mary Carey, a spokeswoman for the Northwestern district attorney’s office, said no foul play is suspected in Sinacori’s death. Amherst Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the district attorney’s office are investigating the death.
The official cause of death has yet to be determined by the medical examiner’s office, Carey said.
