CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper to speak at Smith College April 14

Cooper will speak on April 14 at 8 p.m. at John M. Greene Hall in an event hosted by the college’s Student Event Committee. Tickets to “Anderson Cooper: A 360-Degree Look at World Events,” must be purchased in advance.

Cooper, who graduated from Yale University in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in political science, has covered news events around the globe, including the aftermaths of earthquakes in Japan and Haiti, and “Arab Spring” uprisings in the Middle East.

He was central to CNN’s coverage of the 2012 presidential election, according to a statement on the Smith College website. Cooper also covered the Republican and Democratic national conventions and the elementary school shootings in Newtown, Conn. During 2007 and 2008, he traveled around the world doing reporting for the CNN documentary “Planet in Peril.”

Smith students are eligible for one free ticket to Cooper’s talk. On Monday at 10 a.m., tickets will become available to the general public at the Smith College Campus Center, Room 106, cash or check only. Tickets for students, faculty and staff of Amherst, Mount Holyoke and Hampshire colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst are $20; general admission is $25.
