Meghan R. Pastomerlo, 29, of 33 Thetford St., was arrested at 7:15 p.m. on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, endangering a child while operating under the influence and failing to stay within marked lanes.

Police Chief Bruce W. McMahon said Monday that the three children in the car were all under 10, though he didn’t know their exact ages. At the scene of the accident Sunday night, an EMT could be seen carrying an infant in a baby carrier from the ambulance.

McMahon said that in accordance with mandated reporting laws, his department reported the incident to the state Department of Children and Families.

According to the police report of the accident, Pastomerlo’s van was traveling south on West Street when her vehicle went off the road and struck a large rock in the front yard of 119 West St. It then continued through the yard, through a row of bushes and onto Little Street. The van then crossed Little Street and came to rest a few feet from a telephone pole on the west side of the intersection of the two roads. The vehicle had heavy front end damage and its airbags were deployed.

The path the van took as it left West Street and drove through a yard was apparent because bushes were ripped up and strewn across the road and the front bumper and other pieces of the van lay left behind in the tire tracks.
