Driver cited after Northampton cyclist knocked to ground by car

NORTHAMPTON — A Northampton bicyclist was treated and released from Cooley Dickinson Hospital on Tuesday after he was knocked to the ground by a car trying to pass.

The driver, Cheryl R. Donaldson, 69, of 50 Warner St., was cited for failure to use care while overtaking a bicycle operated by Richard S. Kueny, 72, of 137 Clement St.

According to police, the accident occurred while both were traveling south on Riverview Drive about 4:40 p.m.

Police said Donaldson was attempting to pass Kueny on his left, but did not get far enough over and hit Kueny with her passenger-side mirror.

Kueny was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries to his left arm and hands.
