Amherst water main work on East Pleasant Street begins Monday

AMHERST — Construction of a new water main on East Pleasant Street will begin Monday, with traffic delays expected but no detours planned.

F & J Inc. of Ludlow is handling the work between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily on the section of road from Eastman Lane to Pine Street.

During the project, the existing 6-inch main will be replaced with a 10-inch main, and each residential connection will be relocated during the project.

All residents along this stretch of road could go without water service for a brief time, and if this happens, the restored service may cause period of cloudy water and sputtering pipes.

The Department of Public Works is seeking comments about any changes in the water quality at the conclusion of the project. Residents who live on that section of East Pleasant Street should send comments to town engineer Jason Skeels at skeelsj@amherstma.gov
