Northampton police: Towel-clad man arrested on drug charges

Troy L. Thomas, 27, pleaded not guilty in Northampton District Court before Judge Jacklyn Connly charges of to possessing a class B drug (Adderall) and possessing a class C drug (Klonopin). Connly released him on his own recognizance.

According to police and court records, police were called to the Cumberland Farms store on King Street about 4:20 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a man inside the store wearing only a towel.

Police arrived and found Thomas, who said he had been at a Market Street home where he and another man fought briefly before he grabbed a towel and his bag and leapt out the window to escape.

While being interviewed by police, Thomas allegedly dumped out the contents of his bag, including an unmarked bottle with several prescription pills for which he did not have a prescription, leading to the arrest. Police identified the pills as identified as Klonopin, an anti-anxiety drug, and Adderall, which is used to treat attention disorders.

Thomas is due back in court Oct. 16 for a pre-trial hearing.
