‘Meet the installer’

— Solarize Northampton will hold a “meet the installer” event Thursday for residents interested in going solar at discounted prices.

The forum comes after a Solar 101 workshop attended by more than 120 residents earlier this spring. The two-hour forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Senior Center, 67 Conz St.

Matthew Kakley, spokesman for the state program called Solarize Mass, said Thursday’s event will include a short recap of the solarize model, as well as a more detailed presentation from Real Goods Solar, the installer selected to service Northampton. Residents did not have to attend the first workshop to move ahead with the program, Kakley said.

Through the Solarize Northampton program, Real Goods Solar is offering options for people wishing to either buy a photovoltaic system outright or lease one through what’s known as a power purchase agreement, or PPA. The arrangement makes it easier for homeowners to take advantage of solar without the upfront costs.

In addition to Real Goods, officials from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center will review the science of solar photovoltaic systems and the particulars of the Solarize Mass program.

The Solarize Northampton team, headed by solar coach Susan Lantz, will also answer questions.

The city is one of 10 communities to participating in the latest round of Solarize Mass.
