13-year-old Northampton boy arrested after beating boy with skateboard
NORTHAMPTON — Police arrested a 13-year-old Northampton boy Thursday after he allegedly beat another boy in the face with a skateboard, causing “substantial injuries” that may require plastic surgery, police said.
Police are also seeking a third teen who was involved in the fistfight but fled before police arrived.
Det. Lt. Kenneth Watson said the 14-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital before being transferred to Baystate Medical Center. His injuries are not life-threatening, Watson said.
Watson said that around 4:30 p.m., the victim and the boy who was arrested got into a fight at the Meadowbrook Apartments on Bridge Road. The third unidentified boy jumped into the fray and also assaulted the victim. The teen who was arrested then picked up a skateboard and hit the victim repeatedly in the face with it, Watson said.
Police did not identify the alleged attacker, who was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, because he is a juvenile. Information about the victim’s condition was also unavailable because he is a juvenile.
Watson said police are still investigating the incident and actively seeking the second alleged attacker.
