Alec McManus of Northampton hurt when struck by car while on North Street sidewalk

— A 23-year-old Northampton man is in the hospital after having his leg pinned against a wall by a car that struck him Tuesday afternoon.

Alec McManus, of 109 North St., Apt. 2L, was listed in good condition at Baystate Medical Center Wednesday morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

According to police, McManus was walking on the sidewalk on North Street near Linden Street when he was struck by a car driven by Frank Perman, 89, of 27 Woobine Ave., Northampton.

Perman’s car was traveling south on North Street when it crossed into the northbound lane, went over the curb and struck McManus, pinning his leg against the wall behind him causing “severe damage,” according to police.

Perman was cited for failure to keep right and may be reported to the Registry of Motor Vehicles as an immediate threat as the investigation continues, according to police.
