Jamal Hamilton of Boston denies assaulting Hampshire College student with golf club, stealing $300 in December
NORTHAMPTON — A Boston man has denied charges he broke into a Hampshire College dorm, hit a student with a golf club and robbed him of $300 in December.
Jamal Hamilton, 22, pleaded not guilty in Hampshire Superior Court to charges of home invasion, armed assault in a dwelling, armed and masked robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (golf club).
According to police, Hamilton and an unidentified accomplice broke in to a Hampshire College residential hall, struck a student inside with a golf club, threatened him with a knife and demanded money.
The student gave the men $300 before the pair left through a second-floor window and Hamilton was caught and arrested, according to police. Hampshire College police did not have information about the alleged accomplice. The case is still being investigated.
Hamilton remains free on $2,500 bail already posted in Eastern Hampshire District Court. He is due back in court June 12.
