Granby police probe break-in, attempt

A Taylor Street homeowner told police his home was broken into on Jan. 15. No details were available on whether anything was stolen.

On Jan. 17, a Ferry Hill Road resident told police his son chased off a man at 8:10 a.m. who tried to break in through the home’s rear door. The son chased the suspect into the woods, but the suspect escaped.

Level 3 sex offenders identified by police

Robert Anthony Martinez Sr., 34, of 129 Pleasant St., was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a child, rape and abuse of a child and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 in May 1995; aggravated rape, indecent assault and battery of a mentally retarded person and kidnapping in April 2003; aggravated rape and kidnapping in June 2003; and two counts of indecent assault and battery in August 2003.

Martinez is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 3 inches tall, about 242 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and a goatee.

Edward Leroy Arthur, 36, whose address is listed as homeless in the area of Straw Avenue in Florence, was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14 in 1991.

Arthur is described as a white male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 290 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair and a mustache.

Paul David Chandler, 54, who has addresses listed at Pulaski Park in Northampton and 35 North Main St., Florence, was convicted in 1995 of rape of a child and indecent assault and battery on a child.

Chandler is described as a white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, with brown eyes, gray hair and weighing about 240 pounds.

None of the men is wanted by police. Police are required by law to notify the community of all registered Level 3 sex offenders living or working in town.

Level 3 sex offender classification means the individual has been determined by the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board to have a high risk of reoffending.

Granby

■ Thomas Lafountain, 43, of Chicopee was arrested Jan. 16 at 2:16 a.m. on New Ludlow Road and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

■ Erin Mitchell, 53, of 961 Federal St., Belchertown, was arrested Jan. 14 at 11:35 a.m. on West State Street and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol (second offense) and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

■ Dennis Thomas, 33, of 12 Moody St., Ludlow was arrested Jan. 13 at 1:38 a.m. on New Ludlow Road and charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Northampton

■ Kenneth Bacigalupo, 43, of Greenfield, was arrested about 6:41 p.m. Tuesday at the Wal-Mart on North King Street on a charge of larceny over $250. According to police, Bacigalupo attempted to leave the store without paying far about $580 worth of Lego toys, soda, Blu-ray discs and food.
