Williston Northampton and Easthampton High School stage civics matchup on Dec. 6
EASTHAMPTON — Easthampton High School and The Williston Northampton School have rescheduled a civics matchup for later this week.
On Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Dodge Room of the Reed Campus Center at Williston, students from the two schools will combine forces in a series of mock congressional hearings as practice for their participation in next month’s statewide We the People competition. The event is free and open to the public.
Students will field questions designed to show their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution. A panel of judges made up of parents, teachers and school officials will score their responses.
At last year’s statewide We the People competition, Easthampton High School’s team won first place and the right to represent Massachusetts in the national We the People contest in Washington, D.C. Williston is also a former state We the People champion.
The 2013 statewide We the People competition is scheduled for January at The Harvard Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge.
