South County holds flu-clinic at Yankee Candle

DEERFIELD -- South County residents can help strengthen their immune systems on at the Yankee Candle headquarters parking lot, where a free flu clinic will be held Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Deerfield, Sunderland, Whately and Conway are offering residents free flu shots and flumist in a drive-through clinic.

The drive- through immunization is a technique designed as a preventative measure. People will not have to stand in line in close proximity with others who may already have contracted the flue, but have not yet shown symptoms.

This year’s clinic will follow the protocols developed two years ago, when 650 people from the four towns received free inoculations or flumist without getting out of their cars.

Fifty or 60 volunteers will be needed to back up medical staff for this year’s clinic. Volunteers will be asked to attend a brief training session at the Deerfield Town Hall. To volunteer, contact Elizabeth Kugler at 413-665-7286 or lizmuda@comcast.net.
