Northampton lawyer suspended pending compliance with board investigation
NORTHAMPTON — A Northampton lawyer has been placed on administrative suspension pending compliance with a state board.
The suspension prohibits attorney Elizabeth Middleton from practicing law in the state until the matter is resolved.
Michael Fredrickson, general counsel for the board, said Middleton was suspended for failing to cooperate with an investigation by the Office of Bar Counsel, an independent administrative body that investigates complaints against attorneys.
Fredrickson said he couldn’t comment on Middleton’s case specifically, but noted an administrative suspension for non-compliance with an investigation isn’t evidence of wrongdoing.
He said such suspensions are sometimes the result of paperwork or other materials not being sent in a timely manner, or attorneys are away and can’t be reached.
Attempts to reach Middleton for comment were unsuccessful.
