Northampton lifts water ban after three months

A nearly three-month water ban in the city is officially over.

The Department of Public Works announced the end of the ban late last week, which means users of the city’s water supply no longer face restrictions for non-essential water use, such as washing cars or watering lawns.

The restriction was triggered by rules issues by the state Department of Environmental Protection, which call for water restriction when the stream flow in the Mill River drops below the DEP’s threshold of stream flows for a three-day period. “The city appreciates the efforts water users have made to comply with the ban on non-essential water use,” Department of Public Works Director Ned Huntley said. “We would like to extend our thanks to all that helped conserve our most precious resources.”
