Valley Views: Local photographers aim their cameras outdoors

BEAR PORTRAIT

Route 9, Belchertown

Photograph and text by Les Campbell of Belchertown

“Wildlife are frequent visitors to Sky Meadows, my home and photo gallery. Many Pioneer Valley photographers have learned to capture wildlife images on the property. Early one morning in June. a bear approached the house very closely. I steadied the camera and photographed it calmly and methodically. Later, I went inside as the bear had other spots to visit in its travels. Coming face-to-face with a bear is a lifetime challenge. Cooperative ones are a gift. This image was created with a DSLR and a short telephoto lens.

Les Campbell is affiliated with the Robert Floyd Photo Gallery, 2 East St., Southampton. Other nature images are on view there Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m.
