PALM WARBLER

Rail trail, South Amherst

Photograph and text by Anne E. Ely of South Hadley

I recently went on a Mass Audubon trip to Florida where I was pleased to see my first palm warbler, among many other birds. Little did I know that a week later, while walking along the Rail Trail in South Amherst, I would see a palm warbler. In fact, it was the first bird I saw when I went out for my walk. I must confess, I never realized that those bright little birds visited our area. Once I saw one, though, I started seeing them everywhere. This little one managed to stop hopping along the side of the trail just long enough for me to snap this shot with my tripod- mounted digital SLR with a telephoto lens.

Anne Ely is affiliated with the Robert Floyd Photo Gallery, 2 East St., Southampton. Other nature images are on view there Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m.
