FAMILY WANTED

24 light two lines goes here

Fourteen-year-old Shianne is a joyful and easygoing Caucasian girl. She loves to spend time outdoors and also enjoys running, playing with dolls and stuffed animals, and watching movies. Shianne recently competed in the Special Olympics. She is emotionally on the level of a 5-year-old child and has been diagnosed with moderate mental retardation. She is generally happy and is easily redirected by caretakers and teachers. Shianne continues to believe in the magic of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and needs a patient, loving family that will delight in her innocence.

Her worker feels that she would do best with a mother and father, two mothers, or with a single mother. She does well with her foster siblings who also have special needs, but would benefit from being the only child in a family as well. Shianne’s current foster home and school provide her with the structure and positive reinforcement she needs.

In addition, Shianne has a visiting resource and siblings with whom she would need to maintain a connection. Shianne has expressed that she would like a family that encourages her to keep writing.

Note: An adoption party for families who are interested in adopting children with intellectual and/or physical special needs will be held Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ironstone Farms in Andover. The farm is a therapeutic horseback riding facility. Children will be able to enjoy horseback riding; children and families will also be able to participate in arts and crafts. A pizza lunch will be served.

To learn more about Shianne, or to RSVP to the adoption party, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.MAREinc.org.
