Northampton Prevention Coalition meeting to explore impact of drug, alcohol use on teen brains
Ever wondered what goes on inside a teenage brain?
The Northampton Prevention Coalition is hosting a Town Hall meeting next Tuesday that will explore the effects of alcohol, drugs and technology use on developing adolescent brains.
The free event, “The Teenage Brain: Under Construction,” is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Northampton High School cafeteria.
Dinner by Bueno Y Sano will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a performance by the new NHS improvisational theater troupe, Caught Off Guard, at 6:30 p.m. A presentation by Dr. Jennifer Michaels of the Pittsfield-based Brien Center about how substance abuse and technology affect teen brain development will follow at 7 p.m.
Launched in 2008, the city’s nonprofit Prevention Coalition works to reduce teen substance abuse and other risky behaviors. The organization is part of the 60-member Strategic Planning Initiative for Families and Youth.
Information about the Town Hall event is available online at the Northampton Prevention Coalition’s website.
