Interpersonal relationship skills

Two psychotherapy groups are being offered in Northampton for those who want to improve their interpersonal relationships. Group focus can include gaining awareness of the self in relation to others, understanding hopes and fantasies about ideal relationships, and improving skills to overcome social isolation.

A group for women only will meet Tuesdays, 7 to 8:15 p.m. A group for men and women will meet Wednesday, 5 to 6:15 p.m. (other times also available.) For more details, call Ruth Folchman, psychologist and certified group psychotherapist, at 582-6900.

Lyme disease lectURE

Dr. Emily Maiella offers a free, hour-long lecture, "Lyme Disease: a Naturopathic and Conventional Medical Approach to Successful Diagnosis and Treatment," Oct. 20, 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Jones Library in Amherst.

The talk focuses on tick identification, testing, diagnosis and treatment. Preserved tick samples will be shown, in various levels of engorgement and life cycles. The talk includes the complexities of testing (ELISA and Western blot), and how to de-mystify Western blot testing. Prevention and treatment options will be explained, including pharmaceuticals and natural medicines. A question-and-answer session follows.

Fatherhood journey gathering

Daily Hampshire Gazette columnist John Engel hosts a Fatherhood Journey gathering Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Cup & Top Café in Florence.

Building on themes from his Gazette columns as well as the public and private conversations they have inspired, John will lead discussions on the daily joys and challenges of fatherhood.

The Fatherhood Journey events are quarterly gatherings of all types and ages of fathers who are interested in connecting to, sharing with and learning from other men who are navigating the journey of fatherhood.
