Dexters celebrate 60th
Sixty years ago, on Oct. 17, 1953, Richard and Ruth Dexter of Belchertown were married. Their first date was on a motorcycle and throughout the years they have continued their traveling across the country, and have visited 48 of the 50 states. The Dexters also enjoy camping and going to their camp in Berwick, Maine.
Richard worked for Amherst College for 30 years and has been an active member of the Belchertown Lions Club since 1977. He has received the Melvin Jones Award and is now a lifetime member. His hobbies are working outside and raising animals. In the past, Ruth has enjoyed bowling and being a member of a league. Her hobbies have included sewing, painting, crocheting, cooking, and taking care of her dogs and birds.
Ruth also loves spending time with her family. She and Richard have four children: Regina Wright; Marlene Rule, who is married to Robert Rule; Deanna Wiseman; and Richard Dexter II, who is married to Susan Dexter. The Dexters have seven grandchildren: Brendon, Jessica, Kimberly, Jeffery, Nicole, CJ and Maddi. They also have five great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Hailey, Brookelynn, Olivia and Jacob.
A celebration with family will be held at the Amherst Brewery.
