Florence Roy Dinsmore celebrates 107th birthday
Norman Roy, 84, of Northampton traveled to Lewiston, Maine, in late March, where he joined his brothers, Robert and Edward Roy of Lewiston, and other family members in celebrating the 107th birthday of their mother, Florence Roy Dinsmore.
Dinsmore’s clan gathered at Schooner Estates, an assisted living facility where Dinsmore now lives.
Born Florence Lachapelle on April 2, 1906, in Bowdoin, Maine, Dinsmore may be the state’s oldest person, although according to the Vital Statistics Bureau of Maine, there are no records to confirm that.
According to a March 29 story in the Auburn-Lewiston Sun Journal, Dinsmore lived alone in her Lewiston home until the age of 103, and until last year, when she moved into assisted living, she was living in a studio apartment at Schooner Estates.
The 40-year-plus cancer survivor still likes to take strolls outdoors when it’s warm enough; she led a Relay For Life walk around a local track a couple of years ago.
At her birthday party, Dinsmore didn’t eat any lunch, but dug right into the birthday cake.
Her daughter-in-law, Connie Roy of Lewiston, said when the cake was put in front of Dinsmore, she immediately dipped her finger in the frosting for a taste.
“Ooh, it’s good!” she said.
