Two flu clinics offering vaccinations in area on Saturday
NORTHAMPTON — Two separate flu clinics are being held Saturday to vaccinate people against this year’s especially potent strain.
One will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Florence Community Center at 140 Pine St. for people 8 and older and is free of charge.
Another clinic will be offered by the VNA & Hospice of Cooley Dickinson from 9 a.m. to noon at Greenfield Savings Bank, 325A King St., Northampton.
That clinic will vaccinate people 15 and older. The fee is $30 per shot, but Priscilla Ross of the VNA said if people are unable to pay, that fee will be waived in the interest of getting as many people vaccinated as possible.
A story in Thurday’s Gazette implied vaccines were only appropriate for children 8 and older, but children as young as 6 months old can receive vaccinations, according to Merridith O’Leary, Northampton’s public health director.
The clinics are only vaccinating older children and adults, but parents and caregivers who wish to have younger children vaccinated should consult with their pediatrician or primary care physician.
