Carol K. Melin: Good to hear of UMass students doing good
To the editor:
As a former teacher of high school students I have long understood that the vast majority of young adults are filled with hope, good intentions and so much potential. Last Friday’s front page article about the UMass students who started the Northampton Exercise Club with and for homeless individuals brought tears of joy and pride.
Huge kudos to Reed Fox, Mike McGrath and their adult mentors from UMass and Mercy Medical Center for passing on this hope and potential in a most positive and creative way. You are true winners. Kudos, also, to the Gazette for featuring this (too often ignored) part of the college experience. I hope this can become a model for many good jobs.
