Foster offers fresh leadership for Ward 2

To the editor:

A letter recently said Paul Spector has been very responsive to concerns about street sign and parking enforcement problems and urged readers to vote for him as Ward 2 city councilor. I like Paul greatly as an individual, but I’m sorry to say that I haven’t had the same experience.

Though Paul has been very active in the ward since learning he’d be opposed in the election, he was much less so previously. His response on at least one urgent street sign problem, an urgent traffic problem and a third less urgent but still serious traffic problem was less than impressive. More important, he’s been absent from meetings on matters of great concern, such as the most recent public meetings on citywide rezoning and the Opal site plan for the former Clarke school.

He has also exhibited a tendency to be more energetic in telling us what can’t be done than in proposing and supporting ways of meeting our needs. I believe that the City Council can use fresh ideas. Paul has been our councilman for 10 years and I’m not optimistic about his ability to introduce the fresh thinking that’s needed.

I’ve talked extensively with Jason Foster and am convinced that he will be more positive and energetic in responding to the felt needs of his constituents and more imaginative and vigorous in introducing and pushing for new ideas that can put the city on a firmer financial footing.
