Friday’s high schools: Amherst boys soccer team beats East Longmeadow under the lights
Brandon Vazquez had three goals and one assist as the Amherst Regional boys soccer team beat East Longmeadow 4-2 in the first night soccer game of the season, Friday in Amherst.
The Hurricanes (10-2-4, 4-0-3 Smith) played all afternoon home games because of the EEE threat.
Eric Gooden also had a goal and an assist, while Adam Rice and Andy Zyskowski each had one assist in the victory.
Mike Rock made five saves for Amherst.
Hampshire 7, Hampden Charter 0 — Brendan Bzdel (two goals, two assists) and Graham George (two goals) led the way as Raiders (8-0-5) won in Westhampton.
Alex Kubosiak, Colin Dearborn and Bryan Brasil also scored for Hampshire, while Kevin Brasil and Brendan Allard added assists.
Ben Preston and Nick O’Hare split time in net for the Raiders.
Smith Vocational 2, Pathfinder 2 — Tomaz Oliveria gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead at halftime and Kenny Casagrande’s tally in the 33rd minute of the second half tied the score at 2-2 as the Vikings (2-8-4) pulled out a point on the road.
Josh Harriman made six saves for Smith Voke.
Sabis 1, Gateway 0 — Andrew Berthiaume scored in the final minute as the Gators (10-4-2) fell at home.
Mike Arel (four saves) and Spencer Rock (three saves) split time for Gateway.
Hopkins Academy 5, Ware 1 — Jai Ruiz scored three goals, while Kayla Jacque and Mackenzie Sullivan (assist) each had one as the Golden Hawks (6-8-2) cruised on the road.
Nicole Morrison and Mary Cook each had one assist, while Kate Sullivan made 17 saves in the win.
Granby 2, Athol 0 — Kiley Baran and Meghan Sullivan scored asthe Rams (11-3-1, 4-1 Pioneer North) won at home.
Alicia Frappier added an assist and Brittany Hauschild finished with five saves for Granby.
Hampshire 3, Sabis 1 — Brianna Weltlich (two goals) and Michelle Nardi (goal, assist) led the way as the Raiders (11-1-2, 5-1-0 Grieve) won in Springfield.
Chelsea Moussette and Michelle Labrie each had one assist for Hampshire.
Madison Boucher (two saves) and Kayla LaBrecque (three saves) split time in net for Hampshire.
Gateway Regional 1, Smith Academy 0 — Ali Fisk scored on a penalty kick in the 44th minute as the Gators (10-3-2, 3-1-2 Pioneer South) won in Hatfield.
Sarah Otterbeck made six saves in the shutout.
Brooke Pashek stopped six shots for the Falcons (10-4-1, 5-1).
Chicopee 4, Amherst 1 — Lizzy Simon had a goal but the Hurricanes (8-5-3, 2-3-1 Central) fell on the road.
Nina Chouquette had the assist and Becca Carkhuff had 12 saves for Amherst.
South Hadley 0, East Longmeadow 0 — With the home draw, the Tigers (6-9-2, 4-1-2 Central) secured a second-place finish their league and the postseason berth that comes with it.
Sam Brault made two saves for South Hadley, while both Dominique Wilkins and Izzie Patruno played well in the field.
Belchertown 3, Chicopee 1 — Geena DeTorrice had nine digs, one ace and one kill as the Orioles (5-11, 2-5 Southern) won 25-16, 25-19, 17-25, 25-23.
Erica Kamins added three aces, three digs and two assists for Belchertown.
Jennifer Ollari-Barry played well for the Orioles with a perfect serving percentage and a block.
