Party drug ‘molly’ intercepted in Pelham — and other area police news

Hadley

■Edward Francis Furnelli, 32, of Chicopee, was arrested on a warrant at 8:05 p.m. Sunday at a Route 9 business.

■Apontie Ritchie, 40, of 43 Barrett St., Northampton, was arrested at 1:34 p.m. Saturday at the Target store at the Hampshire Mall on a charge of shoplifting over $100.

Northampton

■Andrew Dupree, 20, of Holyoke, was arrested about 8:51 p.m. Sunday on Old Ferry Road on charges of being a minor in possession of alcohol and receiving stolen property under $250. According to police, Dupree was found with an unopened 40-ounce beer bottle and a GPS device that matched the description of one recently stolen from Amherst.

Police said an officer approached Dupree’s parked car after seeing at least one of the four occupants appear to be inhaling from a “large glass item.”

A 16-year-old Springfield boy was arrested on a Department of Youth Services warrant in connection with the same incident, police said.

■Joseph P. Brunelle, 30, of Holyoke, was arrested at 3:26 p.m. Sunday on Main Street on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) and two counts of domestic assault and battery.

Brunelle allegedly grabbed and punched a woman in the mouth, shoved his foot against her chest in an apparent attempt to push her out of his vehicle, and bit her right index finger during an argument about money, police said.

Pelham

■John Dutil, 48, of West Springfield, was arrested at the closed United Church of Christ, 142 Amherst Road, at 3:30 p.m. Friday on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime. An officer on patrol noticed a bicycle parked behind the church, and found that Dutil had forced open a locked door. Nothing was stolen, police said.

■Andrej Mikula, 19, of Boston, was arrested at 9:10 p.m. Friday on Daniel Shays Highway (Route 202) on a charge of possessing a class B drug (MDMA, also known as “molly”) after being stopped for a marked lanes violation and speeding. He was also cited for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, police said.

Police Chief Gary Thomann said this is the first time the drug molly has been found in Pelham.

South Hadley

■A 59-year-old Holyoke man driving the wrong way on the Muller Bridge toward South Hadley was taken by South Hadley Fire District 1 ambulance to Holyoke Medical Center at 12:20 p.m. Sept. 1 after police stopped him on Carew Street following multiple calls. When officers stopped the vehicle, the operator, whose name has not been released, had a black eye and appeared disoriented, believing he was still in Holyoke, so was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

The state Registry of Motor Vehicles has been notified of the incident, and it is possible that he could be charged, police said.

■ A South Hadley man reported at 9:48 a.m. Aug. 29 that he had been defrauded of $2,650 after attempting to sell a painting online. A woman in Topeka, Kan., sent the man a check for $2,650. She later claimed to no longer want the painting and asked for a refund. The seller then learned that her $2,650 check had bounced.

■Police are investigating damage to the lawn at Michael E. Smith Middle School, 100 Mosier St., after receiving a report at 6:50 a.m. Aug. 27 of someone driving a construction vehicle on the fields. Police estimate damage at more than $1,000. Anyone with information is asked to contact the detective bureau at 538-8231.

■Tyler J. Kelly, 31, who is listed as homeless, was arrested in Holyoke at 1:38 p.m. Aug. 26 on charges of larceny over $250, receiving stolen property over $250, being an accessory after the fact, resisting arrest and possession of a Class A drug (heroin). Police said they linked him to the theft of a copper yard statue from a Newton Street residence reported Aug. 15.

■Shawn Erik Desrosiers, 44, of Chicopee, was arrested at home at 5:58 p.m. Sept. 1 on charges of assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon (rake), threatening to commit murder and intimidating a witness after police responded to a report of an assault at a residence on Granby Road.

■Christine Fleury, 25, of 53 Bardwell Street, was arrested on North Main Street at 12:45 a.m. Aug. 30 on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation after police received several calls reporting that a car had gone off the road and struck a telephone pole.

■Jorge Luis Suarez, 46, of Springfield, was arrested on School Street at 5:58 p.m. Aug. 27 on a warrant.
