Seunghee Cha: van Gogh is inspiration for local mental health fundraiser
To the editor:
Vincent van Gogh painted his famous “Vase of Irises” while suffering from a mental illness and hospitalized at the Saint Paul-de-Mausole Asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence. In his honor, the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Western Massachusetts will hold its 13th annual Iris Project.
Every weekend in September and October, alliance volunteers will offer silk irises for donations at various community spaces throughout Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden counties. The project aims to raise awareness about mental illness and gather funds for NAMI-WM’s free support groups and educational programs. Please support this unique local tradition.
Seunghee Cha is an alliance board member.
