Local sports briefs: High school fall practice schedules

High school fall practice schedules

The Northampton football team will start practice Monday at 4:45 p.m. at the high school.

Frontier Regional has released dates and times for its sports practices:

Football will meet for equipment handout at the high school on Sunday at 5 p.m. Conditioning practice begins Monday at 5 p.m.

Boys and girls cross county will meet Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. at the high school.

Boys soccer will practice from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 6 at Herlihy Park in Whately on Aug. 22.

Girls soccer will practice from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 4 at Herlihy Park in Whately on Aug. 22.

Field hockey will open practice at 9 a.m. Aug. 22 at the high school.

Girls volleyball will hold tryouts from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for freshman and sophomores, and from 1-4 p.m. for juniors and seniors at the high school on Aug. 22.

Golf tryouts start at 3 p.m. at Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst on Aug. 22.

NYSA youth soccer taking registrations

The Northampton Youth Soccer Association is taking registrations for its fall season.

NYSA offers boys and girls divisions for grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. Practice starts after Labor Day and games continue through October.

Hamp Recreation Dept. offers fall programs

The Northampton Recreation Department is offering youth soccer divisions for Pre-K, kindergarten and grades 1-2.

Registrations are also being taken for the department’s Flag Football program.

This introductory program is for children entering grades 1-4 will be held Saturdays, from 12:30 p.m. to 2, beginning Sept. 7 at Look Memorial Park.

The department is now accepting teams for its Men’s Fall Softball League.

The deadline for all fees, proofs, rosters, and a signed player conduct form is Monday by 4 p.m.

Each team will play a 12-game regular season schedule, followed by playoffs. League play starts Sept. 5 and will continue through October.

Travel softball team holding tryouts

Western Massachusetts Intensity, a travel softball program, is holding tryouts for its 2014 teams.

Tryouts for under-14 and under-16 will be held Sunday at Amherst College’s softball field from 4 p.m. to 5:30. Under-18 will be held from 5:30 to 7.

Tryouts will also be held Aug. 20 at Agawam High School. Under-18 is from 5-6:30. Under-14 and under-16 is from 6:30 to 8.
