Area police news: Crimes and arrests

Amherst

■ Police issued a 21-year-old Norfolk a $300 ticket for violating the town’s noise bylaw after police responded to a Shumway Street home where loud music was being played and loud people were talking Sunday at 3:38 a.m.

■ A purse was stolen from a vehicle parked at the Notch Visitors Center, 1500 West St., after the driver’s side window was smashed in an incident reported Saturday at 6:03 p.m.

■ April Linette Lachapelle, 22, of 380 Riverglade Drive, Unit C, was arrested Saturday at 1:17 a.m. on South Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger after the vehicle she was driving pulled from Snell Street and struck a second vehicle, causing minor damage, police said.

■ James E. Erwin, 29, streets of Amherst, was arrested Friday at 8:34 p.m. on Main Street on a warrant.

■ Robert B. King, 35, of 12 Longmeadow Drive, was arrested Friday at 7:25 p.m. on North Pleasant Street on a charge of disorderly conduct after he cursed and charged at officers responding to a fight outside a downtown business, police said.

■ Vehicles driven by Steven M. Placzek, 22, of 330 Pelham Road, and Jovan Santos-Knox, 19, of Middletown, Conn., collided at the intersection of University Drive and Amity Street Friday at 8:39 a.m., police said.

Santos-Knox suffered minor injuries and was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment, while Placzek complained of rib and waist pain but refused medical attention, police said.

No citations were issued because police were unable to determine which driver went through a red light.

■ Diana Moriarty, 25, of 422 Belchertown Road, Unit 15, was arrested Thursday at 9:18 p.m. at an Amherst home on a charge of domestic assault and battery after punching a man, police said.

■ Police took a report Thursday at 8:52 p.m. that a vehicle parked at the Station Road entrance to the Norwottuck Rail Trail was entered through a smashed window and a purse inside was stolen.

■ Police are seeking a warrant for a 43-year-old Springfield man on charges of felony daytime breaking and entering and larceny over $250 after an investigation determined he may be responsible for a break-in to an Allen Street home, reported Monday morning, in which jewelry was stolen.

Belchertown

■ John W. Shaw, 63, of 260 Bay Road, Unit 4, was arrested Friday at 4:47 p.m. on George Hannum Road on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked for operating under the influence of alcohol, police said.

■ Jeremy A. Spaulding, 24, of 121 North Main St., Unit M1, was arrested Friday at 1:31 a.m. at home on a warrant.

■ Delia Marie Caballero, 25, streets of Massachusetts, was arrested Thursday at 12:38 p.m. at Lord Jeffery Apartments on a warrant.

Easthampton

■ Police received reports Sunday at 9:13 a.m. that someone had used a BB gun to shoot out the windows of five cars parked on Gaston Street.

■ Police received a report Friday at 11 a.m. that someone had kicked in the door of the city pumping station at the corner of Park and Phelps streets and pulled out electrical wiring. Police said there has been recurring vandalism at the site.

Hadley

■ At least three vehicles parked at Highland Circle and Rocky Hill Road homes were reported broken into Saturday between 9:51 a.m. and 11:19 a.m. Loose change was stolen from one vehicle.

Northampton

■ A possible break-in to the Look Restaurant, 410 North Main St., Leeds, reported Sunday at 6:53 a.m., is under investigation.

■ Medication valued at around $30 was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Burts Pit Road Saturday at 7:24 p.m.

■ Bruce Joseph Korona, 56, of 29 West St., Easthampton, was arrested Saturday at 12:27 p.m. on the grounds of Cooley Dickinson Hospital, 30 Locust St., on a charge of trespassing.

■ Police took a break-in report Saturday at 11:58 a.m. from a Hatfield Road resident who returned home to find a window smashed and two chain saws and a bench grinder stolen from the cellar.

■ Spencer Page Maienza, 21, of 56 Ferry St., Easthampton, was arrested Saturday at 2:05 a.m. on Main Street near City Hall on a charge of disorderly conduct after he yelled at responding officers, clenched his fists as he approached them and punched a tree, police said.

Maxwell Reno Hickle, 21, of Louisville, Ky., was arrested at the same time and place on a charge of assault and battery after he punched another man in the head in front of responding officers, police said.

■ Susan V. Mendoza, 26, of 43 Center St., Unit 304, was arrested Friday at 10:48 p.m. at the municipal parking garage, 85 Hampton Ave., on charges of disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment of a child, police said.

Police said Mendoza was engaged in an argument and in an intoxicated state while caring for the child.

■ Randi Lynne Craib, 26, of Riverside Drive, Florence, was arrested at 4:22 p.m. Thursday on multiple charges of uttering a false check, larceny over $250, two counts of receiving stolen property and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Police said Craib allegedly cashed five checks last month that were taken from a Florence man and attempted to pawn two of his gold rings worth $95 that belonged to the same man.

Police said they expect to file charges against two other individuals in connection with the investigation.

■ Christopher M. Barton, 25, whose address is listed as the streets of Northampton, was arrested Thursday at 11:02 a.m. on Hawley Street on an Holyoke District Court warrant.

■ A 16-year-old Northampton boy was arrested about 11:21 a.m. Wednesday at the Hampshire Educational Collaborative Academy on Pleasant Street on a Department of Youth Services warrant.

■ Robert Anthony Martinez Sr., 34, of 129 Pleasant St., Apt. 40, was arrested about 10:51 p.m. Tuesday on Fruit Street on charges of disturbing the peace and vandalizing property for allegedly causing a commotion and damaging a bicycle.

■ Eric Gabriel Elliott, 21, of 53 Florence St., Leeds, was arrested about 8:26 p.m. Tuesday at the Northampton Skate Park on a District Court warrant related to a failure to pay fines.

■ Timothy Le-El Lovett, 39, of 91 Grove St., was arrested about 3:56 p.m. Tuesday on a Hampshire Superior Court probation violation warrant.
