Schedule a struggle for King & Cushman

A brutal 48 hours dropped King & Cushman Northampton Post 28 from a 6-4 record to a 6-9 record heading into the American Legion team’s break.

Because of rainouts and a deadline for the league to have 15 games finished before the national tournament begins, Post 28 was forced to play five games from Friday night through Sunday afternoon and dropped all five.

After losing to Easthampton 2-1 on Friday, King & Cusham fell to Palmer 3-2 and Greenfield 7-1 on Saturday. Northampton then lost to Agawam 5-1 and Springfield 9-2 on Sunday.

Zach Goodwin-Boyd hit a two-run home run in the loss to Palmer.

David Konowitch had a total of five hits in the four weekend games, while David Longstreeth and RJ Ramsden had four hits each.

The team will return to action on Saturday, July 13.

Easthampton 13, Belchertown 0; Springfield 14, Belchertown 6 — Tommy Daley had a combined three hits, but Belchertown (0-15) lost both of its games over the weekend.

Andrew Davidsohn added two hits and two RBIs in the two games.

Chris Starcun earned the win on the mound for Easthampton (6-9) in Sunday’s win on the road.

Tri-County League

Wilbraham Funeral Home 5, Easthampton Savings Bank 4 — Drew Dombkowski went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double in the road loss Sunday.

John Carrol was 2-for-3 with a single and a double for Easthampton (2-8).

Mickey Mantle

Amherst 9, Northampton 8 — Selah Dalomba went 3-for-3 and earned the save with a scoreless seventh as Amherst (9-2) won a home contest Saturday between the league’s top two teams.

Brett Morrison (2-for-4) and Dalomba each scored two twice in the win. Ethan Young (run scored) and Jake Balderston both went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Hunter Salem was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Ben O’Connor and Steve Joyce added RBIs for Northampton (7-3) in the loss.

Junior League (13/14)

Southampton 23, Westfield 10 — Hunter Brooks went 5-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI on Saturday as Southampton (4-0) clinched a spot in the District 2 championship game for the fourth time in five years.

Garrett Kowal was the winning pitcher and contributed three hits, including a grand slam, and two runs scored. Matt Babyak also had three hits to go with two runs and an RBI.

Southampton plays Gateway for the title at Hampshire Regional Monday at 5:30.

Little League (10/11)

Northampton 6, Agawam 3 — Jack Diggins and Nate Moggio had two RBIs each as Northampton won its District 2 tournament game on the road Sunday.

Pete Villani and Evan Renauld each drove in a run.

Villani struck out eight in four innings earn the win. Patrick Serio (two strikeouts) and Noah Brink (one) contributed in relief.

Little League (9/10)

Northampton 11, Longmeadow 1 — Gavin Bullock went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs as Northampton won in the District 2 semifinals Saturday at home.

Jayden Darling and Colin Ferrara drove in each runs each.

Northampton will face Belchertown for the District 2 title Monday at McDonald Field at 6 p.m.

Metro Softball

Amherst 2-3, Rockettes 2-15; — Ali Laclair struck out nine as Amherst earned a tie in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader in Springfield.

Alyssa Ouellette (single) and Ali Hamblin (double) each had an RBI.

Cassie Long and LaClair each had an RBI in the game two loss for Amherst (3-4-1).
