Friday’s local baseball: Easthampton’s Adam Krol outduels Northampton’s Bryan Borges-Vega in Legion action

Easthampton pitcher Adam Krol and King & Cushman Post 28 starter Bryan Borges-Vega combined for 16 strikeouts and only 10 hits allowed in complete-game pitching efforts, but Post 224 earned a narrow 2-1 American Legion home victory Friday.

Krol fanned 10 in a six-hit victory. He received the eventual winning run in the fifth when Justin Edinger singled, stole second and came home on a single by Matt York (2-for-3, run). Nick Grise added a hit for Easthampton.

Borges-Vega gave up just four hits over six innings for Northampton (6-5). Cam Woodward singled and scored the lone run, while Mikey Thompson had a pair of hits in the loss.

Pettengill Insurance 20, Belchertown 0 — Joe Ciolek tossed five no-hit innings and South Hadley Post 260 (8-6) cruised on the road.

Ciolek needed just 49 pitches to register three strikeouts and one walk before turning things over to reliever Alex Ziomek with a 16-0 lead in the sixth.

Matt Beauchemin (two doubles, five RBIs) and Mike Paleologopoulos (two runs, one RBI) each had four of the team’s 20 hits.

Scott Bicknell (two-run triple) and Connor Sheridan (triple, two RBIs) went 3-for-6 each in the win.

Nick Kubacki and Jim Kusnierz had one hit each for Belchertown Post 239 (0-13).

Springfield 10, Amherst 3 — Evan Delaney (two RBIs) and Justin Carey (two runs) each had two hits for Post 148 (2-12) in the home loss.

Junior League (13/14)

Southampton 19, Northampton 8 — Garrett Kowal hit a pair of home runs and drove in four runs in the victory for Southampton (3-0), which scored 18 times over the last four innings.

Winning pitcher Nate Sawyer had two hits, including a three-run homer. Jack O’Connell knocked in three runs on a pair of hits.

Sam Greeman singled three times for Northampton (2-2).

Little League (11/12)

Northampton 11, Southampton 7 — Andy Grygorcewicz went a perfect 4-for-4 and hit for the cycle to lead Northampton (2-0) to the victory.

Grygorcewicz singled in the first, homered and tripled as part of an eight-run third and then doubled in the fifth. He also scored four runs and drove in two.

Kieran Thurston (two RBIs) and Zak Houle (one run) each went 2-for-2.

Nick Eline (2-for-3, two RBIs, run) slugged a two-run homer for Southampton (1-2). Garrett Antosz also went 2-for-3 while scoring twice and knocking in one.

Easthampton 4, Gateway 2 — Dawson Wolcott earned the win on the mound and chipped in offensively for Easthampton (1-1) at home.

Wolcott struck out seven in four innings of work. He also had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Michael Ryan (two runs, RBI) and Lance Parrish also added two hits apiece.

Billy Mollison (RBI), Bobby Archambault and James Rafus each picked up a hit for Gateway (0-3).
