Ryan Horstman makes first pro start, throws two innings in no decision

Ryan Horstman made his first professional start for the Everett AquaSox Sunday.

The South Hadley native struck out three, walked none and allowed two earned runs on three hits over 2-plus innings against the Hillsboro Hops. Horstman pitched to three batters in the third before being lifted for Ricardo Pereira. Horstman was on a pitch limit.

It was Horstman’s first appearance for the Class A short-season affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, who selected the St. John’s left-hander in the fourth round of the First-Year Player Draft earlier this month. The AquaSox are located along the Puget Sound, north of Seattle.

Horstman threw one wild pitch, and induced two groundouts and two flyouts in front of 2,095 at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Everett won 6-5. The Hops are an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
