Jennifer Ladd: Educating children a ‘sacred responsibility’ of all
To the editor:
I want to add my voice to those who support a yes vote on Northampton’s override question June 25. I don’t have children, so why would I be interested in raising my taxes to support the schools? Well, the override will support more than schools. It will support a much-needed and used infrastructure of public services.
For those concerned about Big Government this is not that — this is adequate government serving the purpose it is designed to serve. We all need to pitch in because we individually cannot educate our children, we cannot individually be patrolling the streets and putting out fires. We need to pool our funds so we can support the services that benefit us all.
Children are not only our future — they are our responsibility and are ours to care for. How can we live with ourselves if we choose not to live into that sacred responsibility?
