George Goodwin Jr.: Markey clear choice over Gomez
To the editor:
There was much talk of working across the aisle in the recent U.S. Senate candidate debate. According to the statements by the Republican candidate, however, Gabriel Gomez doesn’t have much to offer an aisle-crossing Democrat. There is little there that gives room for compromise. Gomez stated his opposition to our national health-care insurance program and to a ban on assault weapons. He is clearly opposed to new taxes and further regulation of the economy.
And it is hard to believe that a Senator Gomez could resist the demands of the Republican Party leader, Mitch McConnell. Unfortunately, there is not much to reach across for, given the present state of the Republican Party.
Ed Markey is the sensible choice.
Please watch the next debate on June 18.
