Elizabeth Moulton elected to Select Board in Southampton
SOUTHAMPTON — Elizabeth Moulton won a seat on the Select Board Monday night, besting two other candidates for the post.
Moulton, 32, of 115 Pleasant St., captured 216 votes while John O. Martin, 61, of 106 Clark St., had 139 and Timothy R. Judd, 25, of 166 College Highway, had 12.
Town Clerk Eileen Couture said 372 people cast ballots — 8.8 percent of Southampton’s 4,242 registered voters.
Moulton, the food service director at the Norris School, said in a previous interview she wanted to be on the Select Board to advocate for young families.
“No one represents young families with young children,” she said.
She said she supports the development of a greenway on a former railbed, which the town is currently negotiating to purchase.
The seat was open because Select Board member Ann W. Roy did not seek re-election. It was the only contested race on the ballot, but two candidates also won election to vacant positions by write-in votes. Amanda Kemp was elected to the Finance Committee with 11 votes and Joanne Spath was elected as an assessor with six votes.
Martin, a member of the Finance Committee, ran without opposition for re-election.
There were no candidates for vacancies on the Finance Committee and the Board of Assessors.
Other candidates elected without opposition are Melissa A. Kelly, School Committee; Tiffany T. Labrie, Planning Board; incumbent Ronald D. Laurin, Board of Health; incumbent Robert K. Floyd, moderator; incumbent William M. Curran, Hampshire Regional School Committee; incumbent Elizabeth E. Couture, Board of Almoners; incumbent David S. Garstka, tree warden; incumbent Mark P. Reed, Park Commission; Timothy P. O’Leary, Personnel Policy and Procedure Board; Thomas E. Neill, Water Commission; Anne-Marie Darcy, Housing Authority; Christopher M. Bowen, Cemetery Commission; George A. Symborski, Hampshire Council of Governments; and Teresa D. Barton, Debra J. Pinsky, Alison F. Strolis and Patrick T. Wright for four available positions as library trustees.
